Prices for hotels varies according to the season. December and January are the peak months. The price of a room in March can be half the price of the same room in January.
There are plenty of cottages along the beach for rent at cheap prices. The prices vary according to the season and how naive the customer is. It is best to inspect a few places before you choose one.
Where to Stay - Lower The Apsara Guest House is a recommended cheaper place. The Eden Seaside Resort, like many of the places, is willing to charge about half their normal day rate if you stay for a month.
The Surya Tourist Home is a cheap place that has rooms with common bath. The Thiruvonam Hotel, on the beach, has good double rooms.
Sergeant Guest House, inland from Lighthouse Beach, is a popular place managed by an interesting retired sergeant. Hotel Achutha, Blue Sea Hotel, Hotel Thiruvathira are all good cheaper places. Wilson Tourist Home is a clean recommended place.
Where to Stay - Middle The Rockholm Hotel, Lighthouse Rd, is a very nice recommended place beside the lighthouse. It has a good view of the sea. There is a discount in the off season.
The Sea Weed Hotel is a recommended place with rooms to fit all budgets. It is very clean and is a really good place to stay. There is also a man here who gives very good professional Ayurvedic massages.
The Varmas Beach Resort is another really good place. It has modern rooms. The Hotel Samudra Tara is also a good place with rooms and for a room with a balcony on the sea. The Moonlight Tourist Home set back from the beach, has large modern rooms and is very clean.
Hotel Neptune has rooms. The rooms are half this price during the low season. There are kathakali dances at this hotel. A friend of mine went and said they were good. The Hotel Sea Rock right on the beach, has sea-facing rooms with balconies for a room in the back. It is one of the best places on the beach.
Where to stay - Luxury The Kovalam Ashok Beach Resort is a luxurios place with an excellent location. It has a swimming pool, a bookshop, and a Yoga and Health Center that offers Ayurvedic oil massages and baths. They accept all major credit cards.
