Kovalam, 18 km south of Trivandrum, has a beautiful, clean beach. It is a half hour from Trivandrum Airport. Besides bathing, you and also get Ayurvedic massages and oil baths here. The busy time of the year is November to January, especially during the Christmas holiday.

There are four stretches of beaches, but two main areas. Lighthouse Beach is where the foreign tourists mainly stay. Nearby is Kovalam Beach, which is not as crowded. Lighthouse Beach is more built up and there are some vendors on the beach trying to sell things to you, but they are not too pushy.

It is hot here all year around. The best and coolest time to come is between December and March. It starts to get very hot in April. Between April and October the waves cab be 6 meters high, and swimming can be extremely dangerous because of the undertow.
