for Ujjain
Population 370,000 According to the Aranya-parva of the Mahabharata, Ujjain is one of the seven sacred cities in India known as moksa puris or sapta-puris: Ayodhya, Mathura Haridwar, Kasi (Varanasi), Kanchipuram, Avanti (Ujjain), and Dwarka. It is about 80 km north of Indore.
Ujain is situated on the bank of the Shipra River, which is one of the western most tributaries of the Ganges. It is believed that those who take bath in this river will attain moksa (liberation). It is said that bathing in the Shipra will also cure you of fever. The river flows north around the western side of Ujjain, passing through Narasimha Ghat, Ram Ghat, Ganga Ghat, Mangal Ghat, and Siddhavat before reaching Gadhi and Rana Partap Sagars. It then joins the Chambal River, which flows into the Yamuna, which flows into the Ganges River.
It is said that Siva killed the demon Tripura at Ujjain.
According to Indian Astrology, zero degrees begins in Ujjain, which is also situated on the Indian "Tropic of Cancer." Lord Nityananda visited Ujjain.
