Air The airport is 10 km south of the city. From the airport a rickshaw to the city center. There are also local buses that go to Lal Darwaja, the local bus stand in town. The Indian Airlines office is near the High Court, close to Nehru Bridge. Indian Airlines flies twice daily to Bombay and Delhi. There are also flights to Vadodara (daily), Agra (daily except Sun), Calcutta (daily), Jaipur (daily except Wed), Khajuraho (daily except Sun), Varanasi (daily except Sun), Goa (twice weekly), Bangalore (Wed, Fri, Sun), Madras (Wed, Fri, Sun), and Pune (daily).
The Air India office is west of the river, in the Premchand House Building on Ashram Rd, near the High Court. Air India has direct flights to the USA and UK.
Train Ahmedabad in not on the broad-gauge line between Delhi and Bombay. There is, however, a separate broad-gauge line that goes between Ahmedabad and Bombay. There is a metre-gauge line that goes north to Delhi, passing through some major towns in Rajasthan on the way.
There are eight trains a day to Bombay that take between 9 and 15 hours. There are five trains daily to Delhi. The trip to Delhi on the Ashram Express takes 17 hours. Some of the Delhi trains stop at Abu Road, Ajmer, and Jaipur. The Delhi Express is the quickest train to Jaipur. There is a train to Madras four times a week. The Ahmedabad-Udaipur Exp departs daily to Udaipur. There are two trains daily to Ujjain. There are several daily trains to Mount Abu.
The Saurashtra Mail departs daily toDwarka via Rajkot. The overnight Girnar Express goes to Veraval via Junagadh. The Somnath Mail goes to Veraval via Junagadh.
Outside the main station is a computerised booking office that is open Mon-Sat. Counter No 2 efficiently deals with tourist quota tickets. If you do not have a reservation a berth on some trains can be reserved at a temporary counter on the platform just before the train departs.
Bus The Central Bus Stand is south east of the old city. A few km from any accommodations. Buses to all over Gujarat and the neighboring states here. For long distances the private mini buses are slightly more expensive, but quicker.
There are regular buses to Bombay Ujjain, Udaipur and Mt Abu. It is usually quicker and more convenient to take a bus to Mt Abu than to take a train to Abu Road from there to Mt Abu.
There are many travel agents that run private luxury buses to the major cities and tourist towns in Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.
