Where to Stay-Lower
The room rates here are very reasonable.
The Tina Blue View Lodge a 10 minute walk from the bus stand, is a good place with single rooms and doubles. Close by, near the beach, is the popular Lakshmi Lodge, which has good rooms. A little down the road is the Ramakrishna Lodge, No 8 Othavadi Street. It is a good place with rooms with bath. The problem with both these places is that there is a nearby temple that blasts extremely loud music. It is hard to believe that everyone on the street is not totally deaf.
The Uma Lodge has clean rooms with bath and without bath. The upstairs rooms are better.
The Mamalla Lodge on the main street right next to the bus station, has Indian style rooms with common bath and rooms with attached bath. It is a good cheap place and is quiet at night.
The new Selva Vinayaga near the hospital, has very good cottages with private bath.
The TTDC Hotel Tamil Nadu Unit II Camping Site, by the Shore temple is a good place with rooms and dorm beds. The SRP Lodge, 50 Thirukkula St, is a recommended place having rooms with bath.
Where to Stay - High
Just 500 yard from Mamallapuram is the well-located ITDC Temple Bay Ashok Beach Resort on the beach by the village. It has a view of the Shore temple and a nice garden and swimming pool. It has nine luxurious stone cottages with kitchenettes on the beach with seafacing balconies and also 34 A/C rooms in the main building.
The Taj Group's Fisherman's Cove, Madras is 12 km north at Covelong Beach. It has a beautiful location and a good pool.
