Vellore is 145 km west of Madras. The Jalakanteswara Temple and Vijayanagar Fort are the interesting places to see here. This is not a major place to visit, but it is worth seeing if you are passing through the area. The Christian Medical College Hospital is one of the best tropical disease hospitals in India.
The Vellamalai Temple is 25 km away and is dedicated to Subramanya (Murugan in Tamil). The main temple is at the top of a hill and is carved from a giant stone.
