Accomodation in Rishikesh
Where To Stay There are two areas of Rishikesh to stay at -the main part of town and the more mellow area on the other side of the Ganges or at Laksman Jhula. There are some nice peaceful places north of town across the river, which are good for long term stays. Most of the places in this area are ashrams or fairly basic places. This is a good area to stay a week or two especially during the hot summer months. Vehicles do not go to the other side of the river. You either have to walk across the bridge or take a boat across the river.
Where to Stay - Ashrams Ved Niketan, Swarag Ashram, is south of the bridge on the east bank of the river. It is a popular place with low-budget travelers. It is in a peaceful location and good for a long stay.
Banprast Ashram, which is next to Ved Niketan, has well-maintained rooms, in pleasing grounds surrounded by a wall. It is a good vaIue, but is totally booked expect from November to March.
There are several ashrams where you can stay cheaply and also get free food if you are a pilgrim. Baba Kali Kamli Wale, Punjab Sindh Kshetra, Jaipuriwale, Gopal Kutir, and Khurjarawale are some dharamshalas. You can get a cheap room in the Andhra Ashram. The probIem with many of the ashrams is they do not allow foreigners to stay.
The ashram run by the League Devotees has some good rooms. This ashram is by the place where all the tourist buses park, between the main part of town and Shivanand Jhula.
Where to Stay - Lower A recommended place for a long time stay is the Sant Sewak Ashram, Laksman Jhula. It has a selection of rooms . A few rooms have balconies directly above the Ganges.It is a peaceful place. Close by is the Bombay Kshetra, Lakshman Jhula, which has basic rooms with common bath. It is popular with long-time stayers on a budget. Shikar, Lakshman Jhula, is a new peaceful budget place on the west bank of the river, 500m from the bridge. It is clean and has a good view from the roof.The restaurant is also supposed to be good.
The popular Green Hotel, Swarang Ashram, across the river, is a good place in a quiet area. It has rooms with a bath.
The Hotel Ashoka , by the main bus stand, is a good place to stay if you have to get an early bus.Rooms with bat Also the cheap Hotel Menka and Hotel Gaurav are by the bus stand.
Swiss Cottage, Chandra Bhaga, near the bridge and down some side streets, is a peaceful place with nine rooms, popular with long-term stayers. It is a very good value with rooms.
The GMVN 's Tourist Bungalow, Tourist Complex Rishilok, is in a peaceful location by the ashrams. It has dorm beds and rooms with bath and common bath. It has a garden and cottages.
The Arvind Lodge, Yatra Bus Stand, is a.decent basic place, convenient for an early morning Yatra bus. Double rooms. Next door is the Adarsh Hotel with rooms. Both these places are about the same.
Where to Stay - Middle The Surichi Hotel, across from the Yatra Bus Stand, is a recommended mid-range hotel if you plan to get an early morning Char Dhama bus.
In the center of town, close to Triveni Ghat, is the Baseraa Hotel. It is a nice place, but the rooms are overpriced with A/C.
The Inderlok Hotel, Railway Road, is a good place with rooms with A/C. It is better than the other hotels in the center of town and is a recommended place. For mid-range hotels, it is the best place in town and also has a good vegetarian restaurant. Across the street, the Gangotri Hotel, is a bit run-down.
The Hotel Ganga Kinare, has a good location next to the river Å with its own private ghat, hut charges for the location. Rooms here are overpriced, and it is inconvenient to get to. The Hotel Natraj, has a pool and charges for a room.
The relatively new Nanda Tels Mandakin Rishikesh, 63 Haridwar Rd, on the way to Haridwar, is a nice place with a vegetarian restaurant, pool, and health club. It has rooms during the off-season.
