Introduction of Bhaktha Bandhava |
At Kalyana ghatta, the entire family had their heads tonsured.
They bathed in Swami Pushkarani, cave alms to the poor, distributed
food and clothes to Brahmins and after having darshan of Sri Varaha
swami entered Sri vari temple.
There, inside the Garba Griha shone the Lord Venkateswara like
crores of SUDS at one place with his grand attire and attractive
ornaments made of rubies, diamonds., gems etc. He wore the Crown,
the Chank, Chakra, Gada - All these made them feel relieved of all
their burdens. They never knew how long they stayed before Him.
The guards reminded them of the crowds waiting behind. They moved
with, such reluctance but at the same time contending that they
were fortunate at having that much of time atleast, to be before
the Lord. Such is the feeling of the Bhakthas when they visit this
temple.
Having thus Come out of the garba griha they went round the temple
and reached the Hundi. There they dropped their offerings and also
gold equal to the weight of the child. They then paid in the temple
office the prescribed fee for celebrating the Brahmotsavam of the
Lord.
The ninth day of the festival arrived. That day the deity had
to be carried in a chariot. the ,chariot was decorated and the idol
of the Lord was installed in the chariot. The devotees held the
chains to pull the chariot uttering 'Govinda, Govinda. Sucharita
held her son's hand and touched the chains of the chariot in the
effort to pull it. The chariot did not move. Everybody was wonder
struck. They could not guess the reason behind.
Sucharita remembered her promise to the Lord. Her mind did not allow
her to part with the child. She wept. She held the boy's hand firmly
and tried to run away. Her husband and the in-laws asked her why
she was trying to go away. People surrounded her to know what it
was about. She cried, "0 Lord, Is it fair on your part to have
my beloved son crushed under the mighty wheels of your chariot?
How can I tolerate the sight? Pardon me, Bless me my Lord"and
she soon fell on the ground and rolled and fell unconscious. Though
young the child understood his mother's obligation. So, unnoticed
by any body, he prostrated before his mother's feet and quietly
slipped away and threw himself under the chariot's wheel.
Every body loudly cried out the name of the Lord and appealed
to save the child. Their cries echoed. The chariot shook as if moving.
It appeared as though Brahma was holding the reins and driving the
chariot. Suguna and his parents anxiously rushed to Sucharita, who
was lying unconscious, praying Lord Venkateswara to save her. They
sprinked water on her face. She soon got up and searched for the
child, who could not be found by her side. She rushed towards the
chariot. There she found him lying near the wheel of the chariot.
She appreciated the boy's courage. People anxiously looked to see
what would happen. Sucharitha's heart was about to burst. She felt
she could not live without her child. She therefore lay before the
chariot's wheel next to her son. Her husband and parents-in-law
also followed suit. All of them surrendered their lives to God's
pleasure.
'Govinda, Govinda, Govinda, rent the air and repeatedly echoed.
What fate was to befall on the family! Will they survive or be crushed
to death?- A few thought that there would be a flow of blood by
the crushing of those unfortunate devotees. They could Dot even
tolerate the idea. They therefore left the place. Some however,
were bold enough to stay back and witness what would happen, The
chariot was pul1ed. It moved off. Strange! not even one in the family
was hurt, Everybody rejoiced. How great God is! He got his vow fulfilled
and yet hurt none.
Chalapathi, his mother, father and grand parents got up as if
nothing had happened. They praised God heartily and in many words.
After taking holy bath in many theerthams around,' the entire family
returned home successfully completing their pilgrimage.
On reaching home, they invited their relatives and friends and
narrated to them their experiences. A grand puja was performed and
Sadhus fed.
From that time onwards that family used to visit Tirupati atleast
once a year and have the blessings of the Lord Venkateswara.
All those who read, write or hear this story will get the blessings
of Lord Venkateswara for their health and happiness.
Om santhi, santhi, santhihi!
